Discovery channel with a hot midshipman

Met up with Henry last night to pick up my copies he made for me of his Horatio Hornblower videos. Of course, he did figure out I wasn't interested in the historical and artistic aspects of the movies, as much as the fact that it starred the yummy Ioan Gruffudd. I haven't seen him (Henry, not Ioan) in more than a year, so it was fun catching up. He gave me financial advice, I gave him brownies. We talkied about how he was going to make his Bat'leth, and he promised we'd decapitate something with it.

Anyway, turns out the movies were pretty good. It's like watching Discovery Channel, but with a hot midshipman (actually, Acting Lieutenant and, later, Lieutenant). Now I understand why they had to get Russel Crowe for the Master and Commander film. An actor would have to be quite manly to get away with the look:

the buckled, almost pointy shoes,

the stockings*,

the ruffled shirts,

the requisite ponytail.

Now if anyone needs me, I'll be busy with the Napoleonic wars.

*Yep, those are his skinny-ass legs.

SMS from Henry around 1am: "Your brownies go well with beer."

Yeah, that's exactly how I made them.

I saw an episode of this once... the one where he fails to finish his oral exams but manages to steer a burning ship away from the British fleet. Horatio Hornblower rocks! Little bit of trivia - Gene Roddenberry based Captain Kirk's personality on Hornblower's.

That was "Hornblower: The Examination for Lieutenant". When I saw General Foster, I was, like, "Omigosh, Wedge Antilles! Woohoo!"

Yeah, we learned that in Trekkie boot camp :) Hehe.
