Three Septembers and a July wedding

I don't like weddings. By themselves, they're really boring affairs. After all, what's entertaining about two people pledging undying love to each other, with their mothers weeping nearby? This is why I only attend weddings of people I love, because in that case, the whole thing becomes significant to me, and I am not tempted to fall asleep in my chair or sneak off to the nearest bar and look for Monsieur Miguel or Johnny Cuervo.

The last wedding I attended was my sister Regan's. Of course, being me, I forgot that it was supposed to be a happy affair and walked down the aisle the most serious-looking bridesmaid the guests have ever seen. I am afraid to look at the pictures because I suspect I looked like I was scowling. During the reception, I kept bitching about the guests who just came for the grub and was too busy eating to applaud the cutting of the cake.

Do yourselves a favor, friends, and don't expect me at your weddings. Invite me, of course, because we're friends -- just don't expect me to RSVP an oui. Consider my not showing up as a wedding gift, because the last thing you want is a scowling guest who will not join the bachelorettes in the bouquet-catching ceremony even if the emcee is paging her (by her full name) over the mic (yes, that happened).

I have another sister getting married soon -- Cordelia. She should be glad I cannot be at the ceremony (I doubt that I will be able to get hold of a visa in time to be in Virginia by July). Still, being the loving sister that I am, I helped write the invitation -- the only thing I could do from where I am. Her fiance's Indian, and it'll be a Hindu ceremony. I've been meaning to ask her one thing: will there be dancing? Will they be singing and dancing around the room? Because THAT would be entertaining. Drat, now I'm wishing I could be there.

This is the design of her wedding dress:

Isn't it scrumptious? Really, with a dress like that, there should be dancing. And videotaping, preferably with a digital camera so I can get a copy in DVD right away.

Congratulations, Cordelia. I hope there will be dancing and music and beauty in your life, always.

Hehe am sorry, I always think of that Indian-US movie, "Bride and Prejudice" when I think of Indian weddings.

Mebbe you should attend, at least to settle once and for all whether or not there will be dancing. ;-)
